Dubai, GITEX October 2010, King Saud University hospitals won the Middle Eastern IT Healthcare Deployment of the year for automating and archiving Patient’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) which developed and deployed by alfanar IT using start of the art solution based on OpenText Enterprise suite for King Khaled University Hospital and King Abdul-Aziz University Hospital.

The new system automates the medical record from creation through treatment up to archiving and facilitates retrieving the record for any modification that might accrue in the future. The doctors, nurses and medical staff of any of the University hospitals will be able to have an instant access to the patient file with the entire medical history for both of the hospitals and accessed from anywhere, anytime within both hospitals as a result of the project. The new system integrates the Health Information System (HIS) with the Medical Records Database and not only for the new patients but also backlog over 1.3 million existing patients files into the archiving engine which consists of over 65 million pages and document, that drives the project to be the biggest Enterprise Content Management in the history of the Middle East.

As University hospitals, it is important for the teaching staff to access the medical reports in ordered to provide reports and medical studies about the diseases that are most common in the Kingdom and to research the best possible ways to stand against those diseases, without the new deployed system such features with its magnificent impact on the Saudi society won’t be possible, despite the great benefits of the system teaching the new generations of doctors in the Kingdom.

The awards which took place on side of GITEX Dubai with 250 nominations from all over the Middle East, Mr. Mansour S. Al-Swaidan, CIO, King Saud University Hospitals (KSUH’S) received the 2010 award of best healthcare deployment in the Middle East in front of 450 delegates attended the awards.

The Riyadh hospital was established in 1982. This facility is more than an 800 bed facility with all general and subspecialty medical services. It contains a special outpatient building, more than 20 operating rooms, and a fully equipped and staffed laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services in addition to all other supporting services.

King Abdulaziz University Hospital

The first university Hospital was King Abdulaziz University Hospital which was originally founded in 1956 but only got affiliated to the college in 1976. This facility now specializes in ENT and ophthalmology. These two departments are among the largest in the Middle East in these specialties. They host extremely skilled physicians in all subspecialties of ENT and ophthalmology as well as world class researchers.
